About Us

Association of Senior Muslim Citizens (ASMC)

The Formation of ASMC

The Association of Senior Muslim Citizens (ASMC) was the vision of a group of prominent Harrow residents who recognised the particular needs of the growing number of senior members within the community.

Among those involved in the early formation of ASMC were: Abdul Hamid Shaikh, Syed Mohammad Asad Omar, Azmat Ali, Aziz Khan, Rukhsana Khan, Khawaja Aslam, M. Abdullah Tawassul Siddiqui, Munawar Ali, Saifullah Khalid, Rukhsana Hasan, Naheed Moeed, Ahmad Saleem Akhtar, Shahid Ali, Tauseef Noor, Nomaan Omar and Mustansar Mashkur.

Among these individuals, Syed Mohammad Asad Omar had served as a Harrow Councillor and was subsequently elected as the first Mayor of Pakistani descent in Harrow. He also assisted with the documentation and registration process for ASMC.

Following considerable effort by Abdul Hamid Shaikh and Syed Asad Omar, the Association of Senior Muslim Citizens was formally registered with the Charity Commission in 2006.

Some of those involved in establishing the Association continue to serve ASMC today, reflecting the organisation’s longstanding commitment and continuity within the community.

Our Mission

ASMC is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of senior Muslims within our community.

Our mission is to provide senior citizens with support, resources, companionship and a sense of belonging, enabling them to participate fully as valued and responsible members of society.

We recognise that older members of our community can have unique social, cultural, practical and wellbeing needs. Through our activities and programmes, we aim to address these needs while promoting respect, dignity, independence and inclusion.

How ASMC Operates

ASMC is managed by an Executive Committee of up to ten members, responsible for the effective administration and smooth running of the Association.

The Executive Committee meets regularly to discuss, plan and implement the Association’s programmes, activities and events. Key responsibilities are undertaken by the President, General Secretary, Finance Secretary and Membership Secretary, supported by fellow Executive Committee members.

An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held each year, at which reports on the Association’s activities, performance and finances are presented to the membership.

As a registered charity, ASMC also fulfils its statutory reporting and financial obligations to the Charity Commission.
